Wandering Damage I
Random Thoughts on Gaming, Gamers, and Other Things.
Every now and then, I’ll hear or think of something that seems cool, but isn’t worth an entire blog post. When I collect a few of these nuggets o’ wisdom (or dross), I’ll post ‘em under Wandering Damage, along with something I overheard at Gen Con. -TelasReal Life Comes First – because you can neither ‘retcon’ nor pause the action in the real world.
A puzzle that stumps the group for ten minutes is cool. A puzzle that stumps the group for two hours is anything but cool.
When you sit down at the table, ask yourself this one question: What kind of game do I want to have tonight? (Thanks, Flynn!)
It is not only possible to disagree without being disagreeable, it is preferable to do so.
Do the gamers who aren’t worried about appearance (because “people should like me for who I am”) ever buy games or books based on the cover art?
Things Overheard at Gen Con:
A teenage boy is looking at a pair of black leather bracers. “The thing is, these are old-fashioned, but they’re still in style these days; I can wear them anywhere.”

Asking yourself what kind of game you want to have tonight reminds me of the real estate agent character from American Beauty psyching herself up to sell! sell! sell!
Not taken quite that far, though, I can see how that could be a useful psychological trick to get yourself in the mindset for awesomeness.

We game once a month – too few and far between for my liking, but hey, that’s life. We turn up to play. And cram in as much roleplaying goodness as possible. Our gaming motto is simple. Get together. Roll dice. Have fun.

People who would walk around with black leather bracers these days either get their butts kicked or are creepily into leather in other aspects of their life, I tend to find.
Sadly, my old party’s view of puzzles is, “If it stumps us at all, the DM is being a dick.” Sometimes I cried in the night after games
…but I have a new group I’m training, so it’ll be all right

@Martin: Ha Ha, very funny…. I must declare the “Get together. Roll dice. Have fun” motto, is actually stolen from a TSR advertisement promoting D&D.
Check it out the ad at http://gaygamer.net/images/56.jpg (only place I could find it again….)
