I’ve a fondness of a quote by Carlos Fuentes, “Writing is a struggle against silence.” There is always a story to be told and as an author it is difficult to not be thinking about that next tale that is struggling to escape. There. The title says it. I admit it. I don’t like published adventures. In my 30 years of GMing I have used published adventures only a handful of times. For the most part I stay away from them and write my own materials. Why don’t I like published adventures? There are a few reasons. I went to a book signing last night to see Brandon Sanderson, one of my favorite authors, and got a double header: Peter Orullian, who I wasn’t familiar with, was also part of the event. In addition to being incredibly nice, approachable, passionate folks, they both said some things that I wanted to get down right away — and share with you, because while they were speaking about writing, some of what they said also applies to GMing.
