I have not had a good run of games lately. Seems like just a few articles ago I was talking about my new Agents of Oblivion campaign, on the heels of a failed Corporation game. Over the past year, I have not been able to get a game to run for any length of time. So when it looked like Agents of Oblivion was not going to make it, I sat down with my players to find out what was going on, and we learned…

What do you get when you combine Spies, Supernatural Horror, Crunchy bits, a secret organization, and the Fast, Furious, and Fun rules of Savage Worlds? You get Agents of Oblivion: part setting, part toolbox, and part rulebook, in all the best ways possible. Are you ready for your briefing now, Agent? NOTE- This is the first of two reviews I will do post-Gen Con. The second, Shadows of Esteren, is still a bit off as I am reading the entire book and playing it before…

Hey all. It took a few days to recover and to get back into the swing of things, but I am now ready to give my post-Gen Con report. For me, this Gen Con was one of the most fun and most relaxing trips I have had, more so than a number of recently past Gen Con’s . So let me tell you about what I did… Savage Gen Con This Gen Con was very much about Savage Worlds for me. I am just starting to…

Some time ago, I was playing in a Savage Worlds convention game, and our party hit a major decision point in the scenario. Before the discussion/argument over what to do could really get rolling, the GM (whose name I have sadly forgotten) made a very important point. Instead of analyzing our Skills and Edges to decide what to do, we should look at our Hindrances, because they define the personality of our characters. (In addition, we’d get Bennies for following our Hindrances.) Savage Worlds almost…

A few weeks back my wife’s pregnancy was taking its toll and she had to take a break from gaming until after the baby is born (it should be this week!). Rather than cut out gaming completely (mostly because we’d miss the socialization) I decided to run a game of Hellfrost for the rest of the group. I just had three problems. First and foremost, I’d never played or run Hellfrost before. Secondly, I’ve only had very minimal experience with the underlying Savage Worlds system…

A few years ago, I ran a home-brewed fantasy campaign using the Iron Heroes system. I fell in love with the setting that my players and I created, and for the past few months have been toying with the idea of bringing it back, but not with the same mechanics. The more I looked at the setting, I started to realize that different game systems could be used to express different periods within it. This got me thinking about the paring of game mechanics with…

I recently did a review of Open Design’s Courts Of The Shadow Fey 4e adventure, an excellent little romp through the interaction between the fey courts and the mortal world. I was incredibly impressed by the adventure, and it reinvigorated an old similar campaign idea that I had been kicking around for a while. The game I’m playing in is trailing off and it will be my turn in the hot seat next, so I’m going to be running a version of the Courts adventure.…
