From all of the gnomes to all of you, merry Christmas! Here’s our gnomish mascot (well, one of them anyway — I know he has mascot buddies in other gnomish households) settling in a for a little light holiday reading. We’re departing from one tradition this year: Instead of running reposts for the holidays, we’re running a series of excellent guest articles. The first, The Handmade, Super-Simple Wizard Tower Tile Set, went up yesterday. Whatever holiday you celebrate, we wish you well. Thanks for reading!

Thanks to you, the readers and fans of Gnome Stew and Engine Publishing, we took home not one but two Gen Con EN World RPG Awards (ENnies) this year — and not silver, but gold in both cases! Your votes earned the Stew and our second book, Masks: 1,000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game, two gold awards: Best Blog for Gnome Stew and Best Aid/Accessory for Masks. An unprecedented number of us are at Gen Con for the rest of the week, so things may be a bit quiet around here — but on Thursday and Friday we’ll be running two excellent guest articles that share a common theme: keeping up excitement between sessions. We love meeting fans, gaming with new people, and connecting with readers, so if you see us at the con please stop us and say hi. If you’d like to take that a step further and make a…

Today is the last day of voting for the ENnie Awards! Our work is up for three awards this year, which is mind-boggling, and it would be totally awesome if you’d vote for us. You don’t have to register, or login, and it takes about 30 seconds. You can vote for as few or as many products as you like. We’re up for these awards, and every vote really does count (decisions have come down to a dozen votes or less in past years!): Best…

Today is Gnome Stew’s fourth birthday — we launched the site on May 12, 2008. (You can see all of our launch day articles here.) Sometimes I think the Stew comes off as a more polished operation than it really is. Not in the sense that we don’t put time and energy into producing polished content, because we do. But we started out as a bunch of GMs who love GMing and wanted to write about it and hopefully help other GMs love it as…

Thanks to you, our readers, the Stew is a finalist for the 2012 Site of the Year Awards! Thank you very much for voting for us! The other four finalists are Dungeon’s Master, G*M*S Magazine, The Id DM, and Nearly Enough Dice. Congratulations to all of the finalists! Our fate is now in the hands of the SOTY judges (there isn’t another round of fan voting), who will announce the winner on April 30. This is a great way to start the week!
