I just picked up The Dark Fantasy of Sundrah from Scaldcrow Games at drive-thru rpg and I am in love with the system. Check it out at www.Scaldcrow.com. They have the best troll stats I have seen, since I first figured out what a troll was.
Reply

Scott - I have not played the game, but I have heard good things about it. FATE is one of the best Fudge based systems out there and would probably work very well for the setting.
Reply

Have you ever tried The Deryni Adventure Game? I love the world and characters in the novel, but didn't know how it would work as an RPG. When I first encountered it, I had just read FATE and found myself wondering if its approach would work better than a straight FUDGE back end.
Reply

I have had wonderful success running Fudge for one-shot games at cons, and with the right group some of my favorite games have been Fudge games.

It really is a great system, but you have to be willing to work with it.
Reply

I'll admit I just scanned the PDF about fudge, but I looked closely at the way they organized stats and skills. It definitely looks like they put alot of thought of it and it opens up a wonderful amount of free-form roleplaying. However, one of the reason so many games uses numbers for stats is that it makes 'superb' or 'terrible' and all the positions in between an easy calculation without always having to consult a table. With that said, I guess the one thing that can be taught by Fudge compared to other games is that the answer doesn't always have to be polarized to "Hit" or "Miss" and maybe we should look closer at the 'gray' numbers in between.
Reply

I find that Fudge is a system for game masters. If you have some newbies that have never played another system before, teach them how to play using Fudge. If you have an existing group, you might find it very hard to get them to switch. I fear Fudge will see no use at my gaming table because of it.
Reply

I've been looking into Fudge a while back, and really liked it. I might try and run a game off of it some time - it seems to fit my preferred game/GMing style quite well. I prefer improvising the games i run (off of an established framework), and i'm growing weary of D&D powergaming (I realize that D&D is all about heroic/cinematic games. It can get boring some times though).
Reply
