I had the pleasure of playing Shock when it was in development and it has to have been one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had gaming. As was stated above it is very different than other RPGs, much more like collaborative story telling, but it's a framework that generates very interesting and compelling stories. I encourage anyone who wants a one off highly creative session as a break from their normal game try it out.
Reply

@Matthew J. Neagley - Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I pre-ordered Shock 1.2, and Newman emailed me the pdf copy of 1.1 to tide me over until the rest was complete. He also does substantial support for the game (in a roundabout way) at story-games.com, by quickly and creatively responding to questions about how Shock might work for various science fiction gaming ideas.
Reply

@deadlytoque -
In addition to the great price and the sexy minimalist design, their customer support is also top notch. A few weeks after I got my print copy, I got an e-mail notifying me that some of their print run had accidentally been printed rotated, and asking me to please check my book in case it had been effected so they could replace it if it was defective! How many game shops would do that?
<a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('8208','Matthew J.
I LOVE Shock, and heartily recommend it. You didn't mention that it's also really reasonably-priced at only $26 of your American Dollars for the print and PDF versions (plus shipping).

Further virtues: 1) writer Joshua AC Newman is very accessible and easy to get hold of for questions or comments (either via email or on Story-games.com);
2) Rules lend themselves to adapting any of your favourite works of sci-fi, no matter how bizarre, from BSG to ST to Dune to Naked lunch (and many samples are provided);
3) Sexy orange cover.
Reply
