@jknevitt - That one is awesome. I like the styrofoam stones he uses and might have to make use of something like that. I've got a building foam I use for a lot of stuff that would work well as the "stones" on the walls. It would be hella-cheap too.

@Scott Martin - That is a tough squeeze. I'm a fan of having a small map table and side tables around for the players' stuff. I hate seeing books and bags on top of the map and try to limit it at all times. Maybe some cheap goodwill side tables and one of those hard plastic tables as the game table would free up some space.

@Kurt "Telas" Schneider - Yeah. Most of our games happen at a friend's house (central location) and we use a table there. Dining room tables are popular and I'm guessing that is most people's setup. I lucked out in having extra room in my house that I could use. It doubles as Silvervine offices and gaming space.

@Squish - Dedicated space is awesome. I totally wish more gaming stores offered "rental" space. 10 bucks per 6 hours to rent a closed off room with some dungeon theming and optimal playing space. HELL YES! My group would easily pony up 3 or 4 bucks a piece for that. There is a local wargaming store that has free space, but that is hard to do tabletop gaming in.

@GiacomoArt - Yeah. I've never been burdened, uh "blessed" with the hassle of children. You could totally do a "kids" room up in a dungeon theme and then kick them out of it, uhhh encourage them to play outside while you are having game . . .
Reply

I also can only idly daydream about having a dedicated gaming space. Maybe in another twenty years, when my kids are out starting their own families.
Reply

I am with Kurt. There just isn't much to do. We game on the kitchen table. It would be nifty to have dedicated space though!
Reply

I game on my dining room table. There's not much I can do, short of getting a divorce (not an option!).

Someday, in another house, I will have a dedicated gaming area.
<a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('9067','Kurt \"Telas\" Schneider'); return false;">Reply

So far, I haven't done anything to modify the space as special for gaming, though I do have a room that is mostly used for gaming. Unfortunately, our game room isn't physically separated from the rest of the house-- it's on the main loop between the office and restroom.

We're looking at a way to squeeze extra bodies into a (probably) too small space. The room is 12'x11'4, and we're aiming to comfortably seat 8 adults. We're in the habit of playing from sofas and comfy chairs around a too low coffee table.

Any thoughts on how to make the space work better? Table props should be nice addition (we're just starting an Aces and Eights campaign), but I don't want to alter the walls permanently. One wall is windows facing a fence, two have a door just off center, and the interior wall is mostly blank but has a closet door.
Reply

You really need to work from the bottom up to see how it all came together, but it looks great!
Reply
