I inadvertently did the right thing: Logged in 10 minutes early, loaded multiple iterations of the By Game ID page, one for each game I wanted, and submitted them at exactly 2:00 EDT. I didn't get everything I wanted, but I got most of it.

Apparently the "Submit by Watch List" link was not as functional, and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Last year was definitely better, but this was by no means as horrible an experience as the year they had multiple restarts of the process, and I lost an entire day of work.
<a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('9277','Kurt \"Telas\" Schneider'); return false;">Reply

RUBI completely screwed any chance I had of picking up any of my top event choices. I was logged in early as DNAPhil suggested. When I went to add the first event into my cart, RUBI dropped me back to the log in page and I could not get back in for over an hour.
Reply

Great post! I'm VP Events for a newly-ratified gaming club at my university and while we aren't registering this year, we're making plans to attend GenCon next summer as a group.

I put together a collection of Gnome Stew articles on it for our members to check out, if you don't mind. (http://warp.portents.ca/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=183&p=744#p744)

Thank you for the topnotch advice!
Reply

On the forums last night, they noted that the RPGA events and a few others aren't in the catalog yet. So if you start making your list, but want more D&D, keep an eye out for the next update. The events (no times) are mentioned in this post: http://community.gencon.com/forums/p/23064/258320.aspx#258320
Reply

For people who don't want to work with the spreadsheet of events, I put together a web site where you can browse and search the events here: http://gencon.highprogrammer.com/gencon-indy-2010.cgi . It auto updates from the official data four times a day, and you can even see what changed: http://gencon.highprogrammer.com/gencon-indy-2010.cgi/delta/index )

(And if some some reason you wanted to search events for Gen Con Indy going as far back as 2005, I can help with that too: http://gencon.highprogrammer.com/ )
Reply
