I received two emails recently about items I think will interest Gnome Stew readers, both from friends of the Stew: Shelly Baur of Kobold Quarterly and Open Design and Jonathan Jacobs of Nevermet Press.

Kobold Quarterly Anniversary Sale

This Sunday is the 5th anniversary of Open Design, the company behind Kobold Quarterly and numerous Open Design projects, including Midgard, and to celebrate the filthy lizards kobolds are having a sale.

Specifically, the KQ store is offering 50% off issues 1-15 of Kobold Quarterly, Sunken Empires, Iron Gazetteer, Dwarves of the Ironcrags, and The Kobold Guide to Game Design Vols. 1-3.

We’ve written a review of Kobold Quarterly and an article about The Kobold Guide to Game Design, v. III, in case you’re curious what those two products are like (short version: excellent). The KQ folks produce quality products, and 50% off is a steal. The sale runs 3/18-3/24.

Stories in the Ether

Nevermet Press is currently having an open call for short story submission for Stories in the Ether, Volume 1, and I suspect there’s plenty of crossover among GMs and fiction writers.

Here’s the quick skinny from Jonathan: “This new anthology will represent a compelling collection of short stories and flash fiction that were first published online in the fantasy, horror, or science fiction genres. Stories In The Ether will be published individually through Nevermet Press as a blog series, and later as a collected print, PDF, and ePub anthology for fans to enjoy offline or through other means.

Their submission guidelines are fair and clear, and the Stew has a long history with Nevermet Press, with several of our articles feature in both volumes of Open Game Table: The Anthology of Roleplaying Game Blogs. NMP is a great company and a pleasure to work with — if you’ve got a short story itch, this is a good place to scratch it.
